Hello all. Just some chit chat before I talk about my surgery. My youngest son Skyler went to Camp Bethel this past week for camp. It was the first time any of my kids went there, and he said he loved it. The first thing he said when we showed up to get him was could he go next summer. He talked for at least two hours about what he had done and learned during the week and was so happy you would have thought it was Christmas or something. So there's my plug for Camp Bethel send your child there next year.
Okay, as for me and the surgery, I told you before I had a Dr. appointment Friday morning. Dr. Kramer said everything is going as scheduled and I will return to work on July 19th. He has moved me on to Phase 3 of the diet plan. I am allowed 3 meals of a very soft, easily chewed, high protein food. Such as, canned tuna, canned chicken, scrambled eggs, etc. I can also have 1 or 2 snacks per day which include yogurt, pudding, jello, or popsicle, all have to be sugar free. Fluid requirements still include 48-64 ounces of water, broth, possibly protein shake etc. At this point I can still not have any starchy, high carb foods, fruits or vegetables. This phase is too last until July 23rd at which time, assuming no complications arise, and at that time I will be on Phase 4, which is my lifetime meal plan. I will talk more about it later but basically it is just a good common sense diet with portion control.
Mentally, getting to put food in my mouth Friday was a huge help. I have a protein shake mix that I like but trying to get your daily protein out of it and only it was ruining my taste for it. My current plan is to use it for breakfast at least until I start Phase 4. I'm not big on getting up early and eating breakfast so it will allow me to get 38 of my required 75 grams of protein in the morning and getting the rest of my protein during the day will be a piece of cake.
Physically everything is moving along well. I have a slight infection where the IV was in my left arm, he gave me some antibiotics and said it was nothing to worry about. I didn't walk Friday the ride to and from Kingsport had me feeling rundown. I have been walking a mile once a day and if feeling like it doing it twice a day. I weighed in this morning at 296, which is still progress, Dr. Kramer says I can expect to lose what I want in 6 to 8 months probably and as the pain decreases and I continue to build up how much I walk it will start dropping fairly quick. According to all medical charts I should weigh around 180, my personal goal at this time is to get under 240 and settle in at 215 to 225 eventually. The pain continues to decrease and isn't too bad at all, worst part is when I try to do more than I should but is progressing well. Last night I went to see Grownups (probably funniest movie I have ever seen) and I laughed the whole time, you should have seen me trying to hold my stomach so it didn't hurt so bad too laugh.
I have a huge craving for pepperoni pizza and zucchini and yellow squash. As soon as I hit Phase 4, I think I'm gonna have that as my first full meal!! if there is anyone considering gastric bypass and has questions feel free to contact me. I am trying to give a good description of what I am going through without being overly detailed, but am willing to help anyone with questions.
Nice
